We are looking for yoga instructors to teach meditation and low impact yoga classes, once a week to our residents. The classes will have an emphasis on relieving stress and anxiety and learning how to self-calm and/or meditate.

Description

Homes First is a provider of non-profit housing and support services to the homeless across the City of Toronto, with 17 buildings in 9 Toronto neighborhoods that house over 600 men, women and families every night.

We are looking for yoga instructors to teach meditation and low impact yoga classes, once a week to our residents. The classes will have an emphasis on relieving stress and anxiety and learning how to self-calm and/or meditate.

We are looking to fill volunteer positions in a number of our properties, which are located in the East-end, Central, and West-end of Toronto.

Qualifications:
• Dexterity and agility.
• A basic understanding of people with mental health illness and related issues and their limitations, and an ability to adjust their teaching accordingly.
• A friendly, welcoming and tolerant attitude. • Prior experience as a yoga instructor is an asset. • Model professional behavior and report any problems to the site Supervisor or Volunteer Coordinator immediately.
• Provide encouragement and support to clients who are facing issues of poverty, mental health, addictions, abuse, social isolation and more.

Time: 1-day a week, day and time is flexible and can be chosen by the volunteer. Approx. 45 minutes a week.

Length of Commitment: Minimum 3 months, with possibility for extension

Training: Volunteer will be supported by a staff person who will facilitate the details around the class and clients. Orientation to Homes First and Health and Safety Training, as well as regular guidance from site Supervisor regarding tasks and assignments.

• Misrepresenting Homes First or its policies
• Breach of confidentiality
