The Addictions Support Worker (Part-Time) is a dynamic and committed team member responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based, and responsive residential treatment services to Serenity House clients. The Treatment Support worker reports directly to the Manager of Services.

Description

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

  • Positively represent the vision, mission, and values of Serenity House at all times and with all interactions with clients.
  • Positively supporting clients in the treatment center and transitional housing environments and completing all assigned tasks that contribute to the efficient, inspired and safe running of Treatment and Transitional Housing Services.
  • Keeping informed and remaining compliant with all Serenity House Policies and Procedures including Human Resources, Health and Safety and the service protocols and procedures of the program. always Adhering to the highest degree of ethical behavior.
  • Participating and assisting in the organization of special events, as required.

RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Establishing and maintaining positive, supportive, ethical, and uplifting relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Communicating, via the telephone, and other electronic means with prospective clients and their families in a way that supports, encourages, and provides hope to those seeking support and information.   
  • Communicating honestly, ethically and proactively with the Manager of Services, colleagues, agency administration staff, contractors and other community partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Client-centered Responsibilities

  • Answering the phone and providing support to prospective clients and their families.
  • Supporting a positive and uplifting environment for clients.
  • Ensure visibility and accessibility during your shift by being out on the floor and visiting service sits as assigned by the Counsellor of Transitional Housing.
  • Following up with clients as requested by the Counsellor and offering therapeutic support as needed.
  • Engaging with weekend staff at the Treatment Center offering therapeutic crisis intervention and support as needed.
    • Ensuring documentation of these situations in the logbook.
    • Positively responding to any incidents and challenges following all safety protocols in partnership with staff at the treatment center.
    • Cleaning and preparing vacant rooms for new move-ins as per program protocols.
    • Attending and participating in regularly held staff meetings.
    • Protecting client confidentiality in accordance with agency guidelines.
    • Ensuring all Health and Safety and Infection control measures are implemented.
    • Ensuring all vacant rooms in Transitional Housing are cleared, cleaned and prepared for new admissions.

 Administrative Duties

  • Maintaining neatness and order in all areas of transitional houses.
  • Coordinating regular house clean-ups in partnership with program participants.
  • Opening new client files and preparing all required documentations for admissions.
  • Filing correspondence in client files as instructed by the Counselor.
  • Completing photocopying as assigned.
  • Answering phones and logging calls.
  • Recording daily log entries using entry system in place.
  • Carrying out administrative and other duties as assigned by the Manager of Services and/or Counselor of Transitional Housing.
  • CO testing for each site weekly and logging results.

*Please note that this position will also provide support for the Treatment Center and Transitional Housing as directed by the Manager of Services.

*A driver’s license and a reliable vehicle is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Social Service Worker Diploma, Addictions Counseling Diploma, or other health sciences diploma with 3-5 years’ experience working in addictions (preferably residential services) OR 3-5 years of lived experience with addictions and in active recovery.
  • The candidate must have at least 3-5 years since last involvement with the judicial system and no pending or outstanding legal matters
  • Knowledge and understanding of addictions and mental health conditions is required.
  • A positive, uplifting and mature approach with good communication skills is required along with the ability to work with a broad range of clients and personnel.
  • Strong ability to proactively respond to challenges during crisis.
  • Good listening and writing skills for proper reporting to counseling staff.
  • Excellent computer skills.
