Summary: Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre (BBNC) is a charitable, multi-service neighbourhood centre that offers a broad range of recreational, social and capacity-building programs to the southwest Scarborough community. We believe that the full inclusion of persons of different abilities and backgrounds enhances the quality of life for all, and invite our community to partner with us in building a more equitable and caring neighbourhood.

Description of Role: Be part of a fun afternoon leading dance for seniors that include all different styles such as Bollywood, Belly, Hawaiian, Caribbean, and Highland dancing and more. Each type of dance is taught for two classes throughout the season. This class is a creative space to encourage recreation in a light hearted way.

Duties:

  • Lead dance instructions with clear communication and in an engaging way
  • Provide assistance to the Program facilitator preparation and wrap up of programs such as preparing materials for specific programs
  • Ensure safety of seniors at all times and address any concerns
  • Collaborate well with staff to support an inclusive space
  • Engage in conversations with seniors to encourage social engagement and participation

Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with older adults
  • Ability to manage interpersonal relationships, conflict resolution and problem solving skills
  • Clear communication skills to coordinate with staff, instructors and members
  • Empathetic listening and a passion to support older adults

Time Commitment: Thursday 2-3pm teaching two classes for two consecutive weeks 

Requirements: 

  • Police Reference Check (Vulnerable Sector Check)
  • Two references
  • CPR and Standard First Aid
