Description
OBJECTIVES: To provide language skill training to assist immigrants and refugees in the process of settling in Canada.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Verbal and written fluency in English
• Willingness to help newcomers
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Good organizational skills, self-motivated, and have the ability to work independently and set up own lesson plan
• Some experience teaching or bachelors degree
- A TESL certificate would be an asset
SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Attend an orientation and training session
• Follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the orientation and training packages
• Maintain a log of volunteer hours
• Able to volunteer twice a week from 9 am- 12 noon (Monday and Wednesday OR Tuesday and Thursday) starting immediately
• Offer opportunities to the participants to practice English listening and speaking skills, reading and writing as required
• Three month commitment to be renewed
• Follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the orientation registration package
