The Position

Under the direction of the Director, Community Outreach and Animal Programming, the Humane Education Coordinator is primarily responsible for the creation, execution, promotion and supervision of programs and services that provide humane educational opportunities to inspire children, youth, and adults.

As the successful candidate, you will bring your “can do” attitude to fulfill the following responsibilities:

Responsibilities

  • Refresh, implement and maintain the HBSPCA Pet Visiting program•Create, implement, and maintain youth programming including, but not limited to, classroom visits, Guide/Scout programs, after school programming, community tours, PD day programs, birthday parties etc..
  • Liaise with schools to develop relationships and promote community programs
  • Research and implement new educational opportunities through daycares, workplaces, seniors, and youth groups
  • Create, implement, and maintain educational programming for pet guardians and future pet guardians
  • Research, coordinate and attend local community events to spread the word about Humane Education programs and services
  • Ensure all programming is educational, inclusive, and FUN
  • Oversee Sit, Stay, Read program in partnership with Hamilton Public Library
  • Lead, train and manage community program volunteers and education animals, including initial pet assessments and behaviour exams
  • Oversee registration and scheduling of dog obedience and pet focused seminars
  • Carry out administrative tasks as needed including data entry, organizing program related materials, printing etc..
  • Support fellow staff members as needed•Always maintain a professional appearance and friendly demeanor
  • Other Duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Employment conditional on ability to work around pet companions
  • Agree to submission of a clean Police Check
  • Rabies vaccinated or proof of adequate antibody levels is an asset
