ABOUT NEC

NEC Native Education College opened its doors in 1967 and became British Columbia's largest private Indigenous College. NEC Society is a nonprofit society registered under the Societies Act of British Columbia which sponsors and operates NEC Native Education College in Vancouver, British Columbia (hereinafter referred to as NEC). NEC provides culturally relevant education and training for Indigenous Peoples to pursue career aspirations and enhance academic goals in alignment with their diverse cultural identities and traditional knowledge.
The NEC longhouse offers access to many resources and in-house support that includes cultural and spiritual support, funding, counseling, and career advising from a culturally authentic lens. Respect, Understanding, gratitude, Diversity, and Accountability are our values and traditional laws as informed by Elders of the Host Nations of Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh. These values are embedded in all that we do at NEC.

PURPOSE

As NEC enters the next 55 years we are experiencing growth and the need to update our facilities, technologies, and pedagogical tools. We are seeking to engage with a consultant to fulfill our fundraising goals for the 2023-24 year.

SUMMARY

The fundraising position will work with NEC executive management on identifying and pursuing relationships with external bodies that are aligned with the vision and mission of NEC. We seek a values-driven Indigenous consultant who possesses a deep knowledge of philanthropic initiatives within the Indigenous context. The successful candidate will be results-driven, possess business acumen, have second-to-none networking abilities, and be well-connected in the philanthropic arena.
This is a 1-year service contract with the possibility of extension depending on funding.

PREFERRED CHARACTERISTICS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education and work experience as follows will be considered:

  • Minimum of 1 year fundraising portfolio in the non-profit, private, or public sector
  • Proven ability to successfully achieve desired results
  • Networking ability and business acumen
  • First Nations, Inuit, or Metis person preferred
