Position: Crisis Intervention Worker, full-time, permanent,Gerstein on Bloor, Short-term Residential Crisis Bed Program
Salary: $63,609

Gerstein Crisis Centre provides voluntary, non-medical 24/7 crisis intervention through a range of services and initiatives. The Short-Term Residential Crisis Bed program (Gerstein on Bloor) offers 14 short-term crisis support beds to adults with mental health issues experiencing crisis compounded by involvement with the justice system and/or homelessness. The Crisis Intervention Worker will screen and assess referrals to short-term residential crisis beds as well as provide short-term crisis support, case management, advocacy and community referrals for individuals staying in the short-term residential crisis beds.
Successful applicants will have:
- At least five years of experience working in community mental health, and/or crisis intervention or experience in a related field;
- A demonstrated capacity to provide crisis intervention and utilize de-escalation strategies and interventions;
- A demonstrated ability to provide suicide risk assessment and interventions following the ASIST model;
- A demonstrated ability to work with issues related to substance use and concurrent disorders within a harm reduction framework;
- A demonstrated understanding of issues related to involvement in the Mental Health and Justice System;
- A demonstrated ability to adapt interventions to ensure equity, access and accommodation.
- A demonstrated ability to adapt interventions to a diverse client group (ranging in age and experiences.);
- A broad understanding of all the factors that impact an individual’s mental health and well-being including the social determinants of health, trauma, poverty, homelessness, Racism and oppression
- An extensive working knowledge of community supports available in the City of Toronto;
- A demonstrated capability to be flexible and to work under pressure;
- A demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team;
- A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clients and other agencies and make appropriate use of resources;
- A current and working knowledge of relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act and P.H.I.PA.
- Working knowledge of OCAN assessments is an asset
- University/College Degree in related field or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education
Please note:
- This position will be scheduled for 11 pm-7 am overnight shifts. However, Gerstein Centre is a 24/7 organization and with sufficient notice, all Crisis Intervention Workers should be prepared for a schedule change.
- The position also includes some light housekeeping and cooking.
