The Rekai Centres, a non-profit, charitable corporation owns and operates two Long-Term Care Homes in downtown Toronto. The Rekai Centres strive to enrich the lives of their residents by transforming its long-term care model, ensuring that they remain part of their downtown community. We are looking for volunteers who can dedicate their time to engage with our residents.

Description

The Rekai Centre at Sherbourne Place and Wellesley Central Place is looking for volunteers who can dedicate their time to engage with our residents. Come be a friend, have spiritual conversations, share stories, create music, or lend a listening ear.

At The Rekai Centres, there's a wide array of tasks that volunteers can engage in, and here are a few examples of the activities participants can participate in with the residents:

  • Read to a resident.
  • Be an interpreter.
  • Write letters or address cards for a resident.
  • Deliver birthday cards to the residents.
  • Porter residents to programs or meals.
  • Play music.
  • Accompany a resident to a church service.
  • Play cards or board games.
  • Do mending for residents.
  • Discuss the news or a book with a resident.
  • Just sit and listen, hold a resident’s hand.
  • Be a friend.
  • Do their nails.
  • Go for walks.

Our requirements for Volunteering at Rekai are:

  • Covid 19 Vaccine 2 doses 
  • TB Test
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check
  • Proof of flu vaccine is optional
  • Resume and 2 references
