Summary

This position requires an individual to manage the day- to- day operations of the food bank program. This means providing exemplary service to our clients; supporting our committed volunteers; and ensuring that there is an appropriate level of inventory on the shelves. The Coordinator works in cooperation with the food bank team to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the Food Bank Program. The Coordinator is expected to adhere to the Pantry’s values, ethics and mandate.

The Aurora Food Pantry serves those who are struggling with food insecurity by providing and promoting access to healthy food in Aurora and North Oak Ridges.

Position:        Aurora Food Pantry Program Coordinator
Reports to:     Executive Director (ED)

Job Summary

This position requires an individual to manage the day- to- day operations of the food bank program.  This means providing exemplary service to our clients; supporting our committed volunteers; and ensuring that there is an appropriate level of inventory on the shelves.  The Coordinator works in cooperation with the food bank team to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the Food Bank Program.   The Coordinator is expected to adhere to the Pantry’s values, ethics and mandate. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the Pantry is fully stocked for when the food bank is open
  • Making sure there is appropriate turn over of food supply so that food does not expire
  • Posting the client appointment schedule every month
  • Facilitating the program, on program day, and ensuring that service runs smoothly
  • Be able to work on the front desk and greet clients when they arrive
  • Familiarize yourself with the SignUp program and schedule client appointments as needed
  • Answering phone calls and check email regularly
  • Driving the agency van to pick up donations and food orders
  • Assisting the ED with coordinating the delivery program
  • Communicating and working with partner agencies
  • Communicating with the Executive Director regarding food orders
  • Managing the adjustment of food allocations to AFP clients
  • Any other administrative, program related or warehouse tasks as directed by ED

Volunteers

  • Checking the volunteer schedule for the food bank program and ensuring positions for the program are filled
  • Supervising volunteers during program

Education and Experience

  • Successful Candidates will have post-secondary education and/or experience working in volunteer and/or program management
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience managing programs in a non-profit setting
  • Knowledge of, or willing to learn issues related to food insecurity
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Good conflict management and dispute resolution skills
  • Good decision-making skills with the ability to motivate and direct others
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software application and the internet

Working Conditions

  • Working in the food bank is a physical job, you will be constantly on your feet
  • Must be able to lift 40lbs

Hours of Work

40hrs per week. 
The candidate must be able to work on Saturday morning and Thursday evening.

Probationary

There is a probationary period of 9 weeks to determine whether the candidate is a good fit for the Aurora Food Pantry and themselves

Salary & Benefits

$30.00 per hour
Benefits will be introduced after the probationary time period is over.  The Aurora Food Pantry offers a comprehensive benefits package & 3 weeks vacation time annually.
