Full-Time Project Manager for Indigenous Youth Mental Health Initiative
Position: Indigenous Project Manager
Location: Hybrid (virtual and in-person in Toronto)

This 5-year project is a collaboration between Finding Our Power Together and the Centre for Grief and Healing, titled Bridging the Gap: Indigenous Youth Leading the Path to Improved Mental Health Systems. This project focuses on strengthening the mental health system for Indigenous youth by conducting an Institutional Ethnography research study, engaging Indigenous youth and key informants, and building a culturally responsive model of mental health service provision. The project aims to create a more inclusive and effective mental health system that respects the unique needs and values of Indigenous youth, with a particular emphasis on reducing barriers, increasing accessibility, and promoting cultural humility.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the collaborative effort to strengthen the mental health system for Indigenous youth.
- Develop and sustain community partnerships to support the project's objectives.
- Create and engage an Indigenous-Lead Committee to ensure Indigenous youth's and Elders active involvement in project decisions and actions.
- Engage and build relationships with key stakeholders, including Indigenous-based organizations, medical professionals, and community partners.
- Develop and formalize the collaborative model, including values, missions, and goals in consultation with collaborators.
- Create and manage detailed role descriptions for Indigenous youth participants, including volunteer roles and research participants.
- Oversee the research process, including participant recruitment, data collection, and analysis.
- Collaborate with the research team to publish an academic report based on IE findings, summarizing the voices, needs, and priorities of Indigenous youth.
- Establish long-term goals and outcomes framework, guiding the identification of activities and interventions to achieve these goals.
- Develop an action plan for systems change in Indigenous youth mental health, outlining strategies, steps, and activities for improved access and support.
- Build an educational model for community organizations and professionals in the mental health sector, informed by IE findings and focused on reducing barriers and discrimination for Indigenous youth.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., public health, social work, project management).
- Applicants must identify as Indigenous as per the funding agreements of this project.
- Proven experience in project management and collaborative initiatives.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultural competency and humility.
- Experience in working with Indigenous communities or organizations.
- Understanding of mental health and healthcare systems is desirable.
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
