As a member of the Leadership Team,  who reports to the CEO, the Director of Finance will have broad oversight responsibilities for all financial activities within the organization, while working in association with our funding partners.  Further, the Director will work closely with team leaders to optimize the structure and of the financial organization, and to continually enhance the financial health of the organization.

Yorktown Family Services provides a comprehensive range of mental health services for children, youth, young adults and families who are experiencing serious emotional/social/behavioural difficulties along with several gender-based violence initiatives. Primary Function: As a member of the Leadership Team,  who reports to the CEO, the Director of Finance will have broad oversight responsibilities for all financial activities within the organization, while working in association with our funding partners.  Further, the Director will work closely with team leaders to optimize the structure and of the financial organization, and to continually enhance the financial health of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all financial operations of the organization, including business planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, payroll, audit preparations, risk management and performance measurement
  • Provides strategic leadership to develop and maintain a risk management framework
  • Identifies potential risks and develops effective strategies to mitigate risks
  • Develops and implements a business continuity plan for the agency
  • Leads the planning and development of the agency’s annual budget, and its submission to government
  • Provides on-going monitoring and financial forecasts to ensure a balanced financial result
  • Develops, implements and maintains all administrative policies and procedures for proper internal control, and to comply with government directives, Accreditation Standards, practices and policies
  • Facilitates and oversees annual financial audits conducted by third parties to ensure effective resolution and swift closure of auditing activities
  • Monitor financial performance, comparing results to approved plans and prepare reports and interpret financial results for management decision making
  • responsible for the overall management of the Yorktown Family Services financial, business management, information and risk management systems including accounting, payroll, business, insurance and administrative policy and practice development
  • Creates and implements Departmental Action Plans, in collaboration with all departments
  • Establishes and nurtures strategic partnerships and alliances with partners who will advance the Agency’s strategic priorities
  • Assists in assessing risks in all programs and services and develops a strategy to mitigate risks
  • Develop and manage the annual budget, in collaboration with the leadership team, the Finance Committee and Board of Directors
  • Prepare financial reports and statements for internal and external stakeholders
  • Oversee the day-to-day operational activities, including health and safety and the overall maintenance of the office infrastructure
  • Ensures that YFS is complying with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and best practices related to business and financial management
  • Improves organizational success in all staff functions through the lens of diversity, inclusion, and equity by supporting the Agency’s diversity and inclusion strategy
  • Supports communication, education, and training plans that increase awareness and understanding of diversity, inclusion and equity
  •  Leads relevant policy and business practice development to ensure that the day-to-day accounting practices, cash procedures, investment policies, and expenditures and revenues are controlled and maintained within approved limits
  • Ensures that the Agencies comply with all accounting legislative requirements related to charities
  • Provide clear direction and support to direct reports and monitoring their progress to ensure the roles and responsibilities are being met
  • Maintain accurate records of financial transactions, operational activities and compliance documents
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Demonstrated expertise and knowledge of current Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and other applicable governmental legislation and regulations
  • Proven experience in financial and operations management, preferable in a non-profit setting
  • Minimum 5 years senior management supervisory experience in financial and office management in charitable non-profit organization, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Strong understanding of non-profit compliance, accounting standards and regulations
  • Fosters positive and constructive interpersonal relationships with all stakeholders
  • Abides by the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Demonstrates management practices, which are consistent with the guiding principles and philosophy of Yorktown Family Services
  • Proficiency in financial software, database management and Microsoft Office suite
