Description
Recruit, train and supervise interns, consultants and volunteers; develop, manage and implement program plans and strategies; represent our entities and relevant programs to Canadian and international media, corporate partners and stakeholders, institutions, government, donors, supporters and the general public; identify program funding needs and potential sources of revenue; build coalitions and community engagement; and manage program and project budgets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Effective development, coordination, and implementation of program plans and strategies
- Research, develop and implement strategic campaign strategies and work plans in cooperation with HSI/Canada and Friends of HSI senior staff and international colleagues.
- Recruit, train and supervise interns, consultants and volunteers and support/coach/motivate them to achieve program goals.
- Evaluate campaign impact with senior staff and collaborate adaptation of strategies as needed.
- Provide regular program progress reports and feedback to senior staff and international colleagues.
- Participate in federal, provincial and municipal task forces and draft technical and other submissions for government and non-governmental bodies.
- Build coalitions of stakeholders and community engagement to advance program goals.
- Present at conferences, events and other gatherings.
Effective representation of HSI/Canada and Friends of HSI and their relevant programs
- Develop media strategies in conjunction with the HSI/Canada and Friends of HSI teams and draft key messages.
- Serve as chief spokesperson for relevant HSI/Canada and Friends of HSI campaigns, effectively representing the organizations and our work to Canadian and international media, government, donors, supporters and the general public.
- Draft news releases, opinion editorials, social media posts, campaign briefs and other program communications materials, and maintain relationships with journalists.
- Communicate with the public and respond to inquiries.
- Liaise with major donors and draft funding applications when needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in program leadership, management and execution required.

- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Strong organizational skills, including ability to prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines.
- Superior communication (oral and written), facilitation and interpersonal skills.
- Strong media and public relations skills.
- Demonstrated ability to create and maintain contacts within animal protection, the media, the corporate sector and the government.
- Demonstrated ability to advance campaigns and programs.
- Personal belief in and support for HSI/Canada’s mission and core values.
- Superior analytical and strategic planning skills.
- Ability to travel regularly, both domestically and internationally.
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
- Excellent budget management skills.
- Experience with, knowledge of and interest in animal protection issues is highly desired.
- French language skills are an asset.
