Location: Our office is located in Toronto, Ontario; however, this position can be located anywhere in Canada with flexible / hybrid / and remote work arrangements available.
Reports to: Director of Communications
Hiring Range: $75,000 – $80,000 annually, including a comprehensive benefits plan, pension plan, 3 weeks paid vacation, increasing to 4 weeks paid vacation in your second year of employment, a December break (usually a week) to recharge, wellness days, access to an Employee Assistance Program and professional development opportunities

About the position:
The Media and Content Manager contributes to building CFCC’s brand and profile in the non-profit food and income security spaces.
This position leads on and oversees branding (design and messaging), content strategy and media relations for the department, and reports to the Director of Communications.
The role is a part of a vibrant team that supports in developing and executing organizational communications plans aligned with CFCC’s strategic objectives.
Responsibilities:
Integrated content strategy and development
- Further develop, implement and oversee an integrated content strategy that maximizes, repurposes and syncs content across all departments, touchpoints, and channels.
- Lead and iterate on CFCC’s ethical storytelling guidelines, developing stories founded on consent and told through a strengths-based, intersectional lens.
- Develop key communications assets, including writing compelling stories, key messages, and thought leadership pieces, in keeping with CFCC’s high standards for content and quality.
- Work with the Director of Communications to onboard and socialize CFCC staff on shared key messaging.
Media relations and thought leadership:
- Develop CFCC’s media strategy and annual media arc in collaboration with the Director of Communications.
- Support partner organizations with their media relations needs and work to ensure CFCC + partners proactively secure media coverage for key activities and issues.
- Conduct all media relations on behalf of CFCC, including, but not limited to developing pitches, press releases, media briefs, and Op-eds.
- Raise the profile of CFCC among journalists covering issues of food, income and social issues.
- Lead on development of public speaking notes and seek publicity opportunities outside of traditional media.
- Provide media + messaging training to CFCC and CFC spokespeople.
- Manage media monitoring, with regular reporting on media KPIs and updating key media lists.
Brand management and support
- Act as a key team liaison for the CFCC brand refresh and the organization’s ongoing branding needs, working alongside the Marketing Communications Officer and Director of Communications.
- Act as a key resource for CFCC staff seeking materials or support.
Partner and Program support
- Support partner organizations around brand, key messaging and communications needs, as required.
- Oversee launches of partner Community Food Centres, working closely with the Sites team.
- Support developing and disseminating annual impact reports to both partners and donors.
Team management
- Manage Marketing Communications Officer, supervising day-to-day activities and overall portfolio in connection to branding and design.
- Provide mentorship and performance evaluations throughout the year.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years of work experience and/or combined with related education or training.
- Post-secondary degree in communications, journalism, or related field
- Experience working in mission-driven and/or social justice organizations
- Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and reconciliation and that strives to work from an anti-racism and anti-oppression framework
- Extensive experience generating media coverage of issues-based stories and campaigns alongside deep knowledge of the Canadian media landscape
- Strong emotional intelligence and maturity in managing people, vendors, and projects. Bonus points for managing creative staff in successfully executing branding and design projects
- Ability to write clearly, concisely and persuasively for a variety of audiences and platforms, with excellent command of grammar, usage, and tone
- Proven skills in developing a wide range of effective, strategic communications materials and tools.
- Superior judgment and discernment when navigating complex, intersectional issues – from interpersonal to organizational to external.
- A track record of leading complex projects and completing them on deadline and on budget
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and reconciliation through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
Assets
- Fluency in French (written and spoken) is a strong asset
