In collaboration with GPS, we are looking for volunteers who can support the GPS Christmas party. Volunteers will be responsible for helping decorate the party room, interacting with students, and handing out Christmas candies.

About this opportunity:

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our GPS Christmas party as Volunteer Counsellors. As a volunteer, you will work alongside paid staff members to provide a fun and safe environment for campers.

Key responsibilities are as follows:

  • Assist camp counsellors in leading group activities and team-building exercises
  • Ensure campers are safe and supervised at all times
  • Communicate effectively with campers, parents (occasionally), and other staff members
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required
  • Help manage disciplinary issues and conflicts that may arise
  • Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of the campsite
  • Support paid counsellors with snack and meal preparation

Note: Volunteer counsellors will have a supporting role and will not be held accountable for the entire group as a whole, while camp counsellors will have leadership roles and will be held accountable for the overall success of the camp program.

A great candidate for this position will possess the following:

  • Must be 12+ years of age
  • At least 3 months of experience working with children, preferred
  • Ability to work and communicate well with children, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to motivate children towards learning new skills
  • Ability to collaborate with others
  • Ability to demonstrate responsible, ethical, and professional conduct- YOU are the role model
  • Ability to provide support and instruction to campers and co-workers
  • *Bilingual (for French camps) is an asset
  • *CPRC + AED certification is an asset
